christian smiths tronic label enjoyed a fantastic year in 2011, persistently receiving plaudits from the media, scene tastemakers and the record buying public for the labels consistently first-rate output that consisted of a genre-blurring mixture of tech house and progressive flavoured techno floor-smashing grooves. since meeting in berlin during summer of 2011, christian smith and florian meindl have stuck up a productive studio partnership. having released their first collaboration - desire - via meindls flash imprint in december, this subsequent ep for tronic sees the duo take their corporation a stage further with a two tracks of slightly left of centre yet unashamedly peak-time tech house. mothership leads off the ep with a distinctive retro-electro bassline that builds into the main hook via a series of peaks and drops before taking off into a tweaked crescendo of high-pitched tones. red alert opts for a subtler approach, creating its simple but effective groove from jacking percussion and wobbly synth stabs, which pulse throughout, morphing to distorting and echoing in the break.

disco mali! sofrito present a unique slice of afro-disco from the celebrated griot, niama makalou, recorded in the late 70s.
descended from a family of griots (traditional malian praise singers), niama makalou moved to france in the mid 70s where she cut this, her one and only vinyl release. at the time paris (like much the rest of the world) was swept up in disco fever, so along with a group of malian musicians the date was set to cut a piece of disco, griot style. the resulting mixture of off kilter hand claps, raw string arrangements, balafon flourishes and bambara vocals combine with a heavy disco groove to produce a one-off piece of cross-cultural dancefloor mayhem.
on the flip daphni (aka caribou) crafts an extended version that distills it into a stripped down and dubbed out groove.

in the last couple of months the names taiki & nulight should have come across your paths. these 2 artists have been gaining respect from the likes of skream, benga, n-type, mistajam (and many more) and are set to blow up any time now. and because subway likes their beats fresh and new they are kicking off with these boys their very first release entitled the coming up ep. coming up is a 100 procent to the floor slammer wich sees the dubstep sound merging into more clubby territories. the 4x4 beat and soca influences make this track a unique piece of work that not alot of people can resist. get on this and get those ladies shaking their rear ends because once they start a skanking the men will follow. pure takes it back to the dubstep vibe we all know and love. a hefty skanker that will deplete any raver from any energy it has left. tearout basslines and insane switches make this one track that will destroy any dance! impulse is one of t&ns early productions but is not a letter track for that matter.its a mean destructive stomper that shows why these guys have been picked so early on by the subway label. it pounds,it shakes, it rattles & it wobbles. a deadly combination!watch out for more t&n releases coming up really soon on subway and labels like benga beats, sin city to name a few! play support comes from: skream, benga, n-type, walsh, mistajam, antiserum, unitz, dream, laxx, megalodon & tonnes of others!

hissy fit is the brainchild of the moustache mamas, part berlin, part london composed of a us east-coast sensibility and a uk north east sense of humour. its a vehicle to be able to work with the artists and release the music they love, to give something physical (yes all releases will be pressed on vinyl) to the people that spend all that time dancing when the girls are djing. the mamas have then built up a reputation of being grade-a party starters across europe, playing at the rawest of parties, and outshining some of the boys in the boys club. their approach to djing is mirrored in their approach to starting hissy fit, the girls are serious about their music even if the music itself doesnt need to be serious. for its first release hissy fit welcomes aboard leeds based >death on the balcony<. this year they have been cosying up to the likes of soul clap and the wolf and lamb posse, as well as being booked to play all over the damn place causing hissy fits of epic (yet joyous) proportions. the ep contains three originals, and kicks off with >every time< a synth-laced house jammer that brings in the clap & the punch with just the right oomph for the kids on the floor.

we are extremely happy to kick off 2012 with the second release of good ratio music. after capturing the hearts of audiences worldwide with “money ep” from chasing kurt, it is time to warm up your senses with this emotional “one by one” by our friend tom ellis. a great 2012 starting for this new label runned by carlo and baldo. four evocative songs are composing by this ep which feels pretty organic and sensitive at the same time. you might be ready to embark in such an affecting voyage built upon those ever imperfect harmonies and natural rythm. without any apparent fear we can catalogue this ep in the mood of an experiment close to deep house. definitely it is coming from hundred of harmonic sounds and light melodies, everything mixed up with great sax samples and voices to go further than a dancefloor moving. in this way we need to say big thanks to michiel renger & sammy maine for their contributions in the sax and voice respectively. basically it will be a pleasure to make you feel captured over the clouds after the listening
